Effective Date: March 10, 2026
The developer of Liberator: Food Scanner ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Liberator: Food Scanner mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
Account Information. If you create an account, we collect your name and email address. You may also optionally provide a household name and primary health goal.
Onboarding Preferences. During the initial setup, we ask for your age range, gender, symptoms of interest, allergen sensitivities, and dietary requirements. This information is stored locally on your device and is used solely to personalize your experience within the App.
Scan Data. When you scan a product barcode or photograph a food item, the App queries third-party food databases (Kroger, USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts) and, for photo-based scans, sends the image to an AI model via OpenRouter for ingredient identification. Scanned product information (product name, brand, barcode, score, ingredients, and nutrition data) may be saved to your device or, if you are signed in, to our cloud database powered by Supabase.
Photos. The App accesses your device camera to scan barcodes and photograph food labels. Photos used for Smart Scan are sent to a third-party AI service (OpenRouter) for processing. We do not store these photos on our servers after processing is complete.
Usage Data. We track the number of Smart Scans performed each month on your device to enforce usage limits. This count is stored locally on your device.
Purchase Information. Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information. We receive a purchase confirmation from Apple to unlock premium features.
The App uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
Each third-party service is governed by its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
Most of your data (preferences, scan history, settings) is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. If you sign in with an account, scan history is also stored in our Supabase database. We use industry-standard security measures to protect data in transit and at rest. API keys are stored securely and are not embedded in the application bundle.
You can delete your scan history at any time from the Settings screen within the App. You can reset your account details and preferences from the Settings screen. If you wish to delete all data associated with your account from our servers, please contact us at the email address below.
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
